farming out the kids

We headed off to Mum's farm on the weekend. It was overcast, and even drizzling at times, but the kids (ours, and our friends' son) didn't let that dampen their enthusiasm (smirk).

Laura and Ben made friends with Mum's latest rehabilitation projects - a pair of wallabies being prepared for release back into the wild.

Our friends' son wisely declined to swim (it was cold!), but our two took off up the creek on their boogie boards as if it was delightful, balmy weather.

The two boys were thrilled to be allowed to pick the last of the carrots (Mum saved them especially so the kids could pick them). The carrots were inspected, held aloft, washed under the tap outside, and then rapidly consumed. Vegetables never tasted this good!

The native flowers showed off their vibrant colours ............

and of course no visit is complete without a disinterested glance from one of Mum's cows.

Thanks Mum. We love to escape to the peace and solitude of your bush retreat.

I love the photo of the kids picking the carrots... bending over to get them... anxious to eat them!

So glad that you had a good and relaxing time!

My two were brought up on a farm, too. And they used to go into the vege garden, hide behind the sweet corn with a huge handful of baby carrots and raw peas and scoff them. The only thing was, they wouldn't leave a lot for anyone else. Oh well, at least they were getting their veges...

Lovely photos of your two, Jelly. What an idyllic place.

What a marvellous relaxing break for you and such fun for the kids.

To be treasured.

What smart kids. In just about every photo you ever post of them they are intently examining something or the other. They are really observant and don't want to miss anything.

Jelly, that sounds and looks wonderful. I would have been in that creek too - love that water.

A great trip out to the country with all the favorite things kids like - water, dirt, critters.

Can I come with you next time?!

It all looks great except perhaps the cow. I'm not a great fan of cows, at least in the same space as me. They're bigger than me.

That's a beautiful flower - most intriguing; have never seen that before. Nor have I any idea what a boogie board is. But it looks fun.

A weekend on the farm only has one thing wrong with it - it's five days too short.

Your kids will always remember these visits, Jelly. Mine still remember their holidays on grandparents' farm, even decades later.

A farm is a magical place for kids, isn't it? Of course your darling mother adds greatly to the charm :)
I love all the photos of your kiddies having fun, Jelly.
Our little guys came and picked pumpkins in grandpa's patch a few weekends ago. Will post photos soon.
The cold weather is setting in here..bah humbug...but at least it's giving me a little more time to visit dear blog friends.
I've missed you!

Wallabys! OMG how cool. What's even more amazing is the photos of the very same squash, or at least it looks like the very same squash I grew here in Virginia, USA.

those pics are so sweet. I like the garden ones and the swimming ones, and of course the cow, too :)

my kids seem to be like that too, not caring how cold it is if they get to go swimming
