reality check

There's nothing like a kid to keep one's feet planted firmly on the ground.

My daughter, aged 8 1/2, turns to me as I prepare to read a chapter of 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban' this evening:

"You're so beautiful Mummy" she sighs adoringly, and I smile because this means that at least one person in the world truly believes I am gorgeous, but then she adds, " ..... in your personality".

Darn.

Jelly! I am delirious with joy, at seeing you are still here!
I used to sit & watch my mother getting ready to go out... I wished I could be like her.
When I got older, & my own daughter did this, I was irritated, & wanted her to go away..
Life's loops are strange.

I'm sooo happy to see you back, Jelly. As for the compliment? Take it while you can...too soon she'll be a teenager and won't want to know you...lol.

A compliment is a compliment - and I think I'd rather be beautiful in the personality anyway. Lovely to see you back

That certainly was a genuine compliment, Jelly. 'Looks' come and go (as we all know) but a beautiful personality will be remembered and loved by some many long after the looks are faded.

.....though it would be lovely to be have both, wouldn't it?...lol

Cutting wit for an 8 year old, you should be proud!

Well Jelly I DO think you sound like you have a beautiful personality and you've probably raised your daughter to value personality over looks, haven't you? (I'm sure she thinks you are beautiful physically too though)

We all know you're lovely in every way! (Except that you could perhaps improve your blogging frequency...)
