O Canada!

Ever since our children (the dear little blighters) were born, Fatty and I have taken a week's holiday here and there with our kids - almost always at the beach. We have had bucketloads of fun, but at the same time it's always been so good to come home, too. So what on earth were we thinking planning a trip involving 3 weeks and 5 days away from home, with a 25 hours worth of travel just to arrive at our destination?? I'm a little nervous about how it will all go, to say the least!

I'm also relishing the idea of four whole weeks off work. And I'm looking forward to spending time with our two sets of family friends, and doing some slow, drive-a-little, stop-a-lot exploring in beautiful Canada with Fatty and our kids.

I won't be visiting T, Mackeydoodle, or Franny. (Try to look disappointed instead of relieved, people!) I would love to sit and have chocolate cake somewhere with each of you, but with two small children in tow, we won't be travelling extensively, and won't even make it into Alberta, or anywhere near Ontario. But I will think of all my Canadian blogfriends as I travel.

Bags are packed, tickets and passports are at the ready, I have a large packet of baby wipes readily accessible....now is there anything else I cannot depart without? (Maybe I should have packed sedatives. I can see how sedatives could be helpful. For me, of course. A valium or 4, and I just wouldn't care if Ben was screaming his lungs out. Pursed-lipped passengers could turn in their seats to frown, and I would smile beatifically and slur, "Peace, man. Feel the looooove!") We leave in the morning, so wish me luck!

I will try to post now and then, and will have access to the internet most places we're going, so say hello if you drop by. Take care everyone!

To travel that long and that far with small children seems like a truly Herculean project to me. I'll bet they are already saying, "Are we there yet?"

I hope you find the trip refreshing even with all its challenges. Look forward to your next posting... with photos?

have a really wonderful trip! Maybe we should help you with some cute snappy comeback for those pursed lipped onlookers. Something like, Oh yeah, you should see them at the ....or you should see them when they are....

I guess you can see I can not think of anything really funny to fill in the blanks. Nevertheless, ignore those who stare, or just stare back. Don't worry about them

Jelly, hope you have a wonderful month off from all your cares in the world. Enjoy yourselves in Canada (my dad came from Toronto). Take lots of cool pictures to show us of all the interesting things you saw. In fact, you could do a narrative entitled, "What I did on my Winter vacation."

Your children may get tired and cranky on the long plane ride, but I'm sure overall they will enjoy the adventure of the trip. I know that you and Fatty (great parents that you are) will do your best to frown back appropriately at those accusatory passengers.

Have a relaxing, great time away from home.

We did the marathon trip from Oz to CA in 1983 when our kids were 12, 8 and 2 & a half. We only had a problem with the landings, which hurt Kathy's (the youngest) ears. Chewing gum or sucking on a bottle (I think Ben is probably past that) supposedly helps.
I'm sure your kids will be fine. The excitement will probably tire them out and they'll sleep a lot (hopefully :)
The jet stream cuts off 1 & a half hours coming this way (from Sydney), making the trip 12+hrs instead of 14. That always amazed me that the plane go that much faster one way and so much slower heading into the jet stream.
Wave when you fly over the US will you Jelly? Or even if you get close, OK?
Have a wonderful vacation with Fatty and your little ones! You'll be in our thoughts and we will miss you, dear Jelly.

Have a fantastic holiday Jelly!! You would be there by now so I hope all went well. Remember EVERYONE on the plane has earphones, blindfolds and the ability to turn their music up loud enough to not be able to hear the screams of children!!! Children cannot open the doors of the plane so they are confined...let 'em run ragged!!!

Enjoy Canada it is beautiful! Hope you get to see a Bear or Moose!!
