Real Mums.....

Ouch! She's gone and tagged me, the effervescent Shelly from Shells and Beans. The task was, to finish the sentence starting with 'Real Mums......' A photo was also required to go with the sentence. Go take a look at Shelly's photo and caption - both are brilliant and the caption is so, so true.

Here is my version of the meme:

Real Mums are making it up as they go along!

Now, just because I am a sharing type, I am going to tag Franny, Heather and Kerri (and of course you strange North Americans will have to say 'Real Moms.....'. Except for Kerri, who, being Aussie born but living in the US for many years, may be torn and confused!) I am looking forward to some great Mommy photos and mothering wisdom!

Interesting about the Mom vs Mum thing. I'm U.S. born, living here in Oz for over 30 years, but I refuse to be called Mum (something to do with being associated with a deodorant brand). My sons sometimes got their work "corrected" in primary school, but that stopped when I explained to the teachers my "ethnic" background.

Re your comment on my blog (Val, have you gone blonde?! Or is it just the lighting? Whatever the case, you are looking gorgeous, too!): That was going to be the topic of a post: that is my very own hair which is not colored/tinted for the first time in decades. People have asked if I've had tips or highlights put in!! I'm laughing: saving time and money, and getting compliments too. Thanks!!!

Only 73,586 steps?? That seems like one of the easier parenting books!!! I wouldn't mind a copy of that book - it looks like it could have some good recipes or photos in it!!
You are so right about making it up as we go...I certainly do!!

Yes, keep making it up, the little ones don't know the difference, and it is fun!

Thank you Jelly!
Both you and Shelly have hit the nail on the head, so to speak. Looks like you're half way through the book. It shouldn't take long to be a perfect mom at the rate you're going :)
I've got my thinking cap on have something in mind. I've been searching for a poem my son wrote about me when he was an annoying middle schooler.
Don't you hate it when you can't find something...and you know you saw it not too long ago? I'd hate to paraphrase it. I want the exact wording :)
I love that photo!

Hey I wrote that book! I am currently working on the sequel for teenagers - many, many more steps!

You tagged me!

I might crack under the pressure!

Who's that pretty girl behind that book? ;-)

Where was that book when I needed it???
And like Tuffenuf said the sequel for teens will be a much much thicker book.

You are so tiny and cute...I have x-ray vision.

Real moms have to be quick on their feet, fast thinkers, psychologists, excellent crafters, maids, gourmet chefs, dishwashers, clothes washers and menders, teachers, loving friends, loving mothers, loving wives, and pretty to boot. Above all they must be patient.

Not all of us can be thin and petite with cute bangs and thin fingers, but we strive to be those perfect creatures for our families.

Real moms/mums are revered and loved no matter who they are or what they do.

I always told my kids they could call me mom, mum or mommy but not Mother!
Mother is so formal. Now I hope they don't have their kids call me grand mother. What do you call grandmas there???

Jellyhead said...

Motherkitty, although I am fairly slim I wouldn't call myself petite - I am actually 5 foot 7 1/2 tall and have always had 'childbearing hips' (as my father called them!)and chunky thighs. The photo is deceptive! But you are right - mothers are loved no matter their shape or size. :)

Day-by-Day, grandmothers here are called pretty much the same names here as in Nth America - Grandma, Gran, Nanna....and variations on that theme.

Motherkitty:

She does NOT have childbearing hips and her thighs are not chunky.

Trust me on this one.
