triple chocolate muffins

Yesterday, I did a bit of cooking with Laura and Benjamin (see pictorial evidence). I find that my children provide a great excuse for me to go ahead and bake all kinds of wicked treats. They'll enjoy pouring and mixing, I tell myself. It's something we can do together, I rationalise. I suppose the kids and I could bake some healthy, oatmeal-encrusted, dried-fruit-loaded, yoghurt-based slice. But we don't. We make naughty, iced patty cakes, peanut butter biscuits (cookies) and chocolate cake. And now these gooey, chocolate-y muffins.

I blame Flossy for this latest venture into Sweet Toothery. She should never have posted a recipe for triple chocolate muffins. It was quite irresponsible of her, really. What about the diabetics? What about the people with high cholesterol? What about the greedy women in their mid-30's who have husbands who wear their socks too high, and thus need consolation in the form of chocolate??? Did Flossy consider any of these minority groups when she so selfishly posted her favourite muffin recipe? Nooooooo, she did NOT.

Some people are just all ME, ME, ME.

PS Flossy, these were very yummy - thanks!

I'm drooling already. Must have chocolate!

It's great that your kids are getting to the age to want to "help" you do things in the kitchen. They grow up so fast that pretty soon they will be saying, "Mother, I'd rather do it myself."

I spoke with my grandkids yesterday on the phone. Conversation went something like this. Little one said, "My party. Byebye." Dancer Girl said, "Hi, grandma. I love you. Here's mother." They used to want to talk and sing and laugh forever on the phone, but now they're way too distracted by other things.

Hope the triple chocolate cupcakes were as good as they looked. Will have to check out that recipe.

What a great way to have fun with Benjamin & Laura...I'm sure that all of you had so much fun baking together and I'm sure that they proudly shared their cupcakes with daddy.

Your children are at such a fun age and as you can see, it gives them great pleasure to help their mum. And by your post...I can see how much fun you had.

The cupcakes look delicious and thanks for providing the link to Flossy...I'm on my way over to get the recipe.

It is nice to spend time with the little ones like that. I will have to check out this recipe even though I am diabetic, I too cannot resist things like this sometimes. I am sure Papa Bear and Baby Bear would like them too. Maybe Baby Bear would want to help me?

mmm chocolate... I am married to a diabetic and have to sneak around for my chocolate fixes. He is out of town now and I must finish the chocolate-filled oreos and hershey kisses before he gets back (or hide them!)

Kids and grandkids are a great excuse to do a lot of fun things, cooking included!

Just like "Chocolate box" now you are going to tempt us with treats on your blog! They look delicious and the most important thing was the time spent with the children.

LOL Jelly, I'm so sorry for not thinking things through properly before posting that recipe. You are right, it was very irresponsible! But, I did warn you all!!!

Glad you all had fun making them, and eating them :)
(My kids won't help me with these until it comes to the eating part!)

Jelly...can you translate 120g melted butter. How much butter is this? Can you tell me an amount in ounces or cups?

Hi Sandy,

I just checked it all out, and 120 grams converts to about 1/4 pound, or 4.2 ounces, to be more precise.

You can google search for converting metric to imperial, if you ever come across any other recipes with metric amounts.

Hope you're having a good day!

:) Jelly

Thank you for coming to see my son's blog. It is nice to know someone across the world knows something about the boy who was. Come on over any time, and bring some of those delicious looking muffins!

Oh YUMMMMM! The last time I baked cupcakes was on Valentine's Day and they were my downfall. Now I just rely on that quick chocolate bar fix. It's so much easier to sneak those behind the kids' backs. :P

And my son was almost named Benjamin because that's my grandfather's name. But we had to follow family tradition and he was named after my father-in-law. You can bet that if I have another son, he will be Benjamin though! That's almost enough motivation to get pregnant again! Well, maybe not... ask me again in a year. Or later.

Hee hee, I like the imagery there.

Jelly...thank you very much for the conversion measurement.
Sometimes I forget I can google things, but I'll try to remember for the next time. Thanks again.

The cupcakes sound delicious. I'm sure the kids had great fun. Hope Fatty didn't get fatter!
I think I copied that recipe when I visited Flossy. Thanks for reminding me. That Flossy really is irresponsible, tempting us all with her wicked recipes. Shame on her!

Oh, triple chocolate - wow - can't so it though - hope you and the kids enjoyed them.
Yes it is nice to do things with the kids. Used to do things like baking with my son all the time to teach him measuring. The kids are learning lessons and getting goodies and having time with their Mom - good for you.
