bold birds and being blessed by blogging

Beside our front path stands a palm tree. On the palm tree is a heavy bough of flowers.

Each afternoon, these rainbow lorikeets have been feasting, nuzzling in with their heads, and even ducking their entire bodies deep within the flowers. We go racing along the path and up to the safety of the veranda - to reduce our chances of being splatted by messy missiles.

Rainbow lorikeets are so common in our neighbourhood that I wouldn't normally think twice about them. 'Yep, another lorikeet, what of it?' But one of the many good things about blogging is that it makes me look at my life from an outside perspective, and see the beauty and joy that is there every day, if only I take notice.

So, voila - another pictorial slice of my life.

While I'm mentioning paying attention - I want to thank all of you who stop by here regularly. It means a lot to me that you take the time to read my ramblings, and to comment. I have found some truly funny, kind and intriguing people through blogging. I am really happy to know you all.

First to comment! WOW - how can something so beautiful be commonplace! I am glad your perspective allowed you to see this and share. The birds are spectacular, but the flowers on the palm tree, nothing like that around here!

Thanks to you too for being a regular visitor to my blog! A great way to get to know people.

I am so jealous. Love the birds.

What great little birds. I've never even seen a picture of them before. Tell them to come to our backyard feeders. They will be welcome here!

Wonders surround us here in Florida too, but we write them off as common and hardly ever notice them.

The Lorikeets are beautiful! They will however, "poop" in your direction if you are not careful. I think blogging has brought us all together as friends in a new and unique way. We didn't meet in the conventional way, hell- we don't even know each others real names, or what we look like, but we have such a strange closeness. My regular friends don't know as much about my everyday thoughts as my blog friends. Someday maybe we will all meet at some sort of blogging convention. Until then, I too - like you, Jelly, enjoy this SO MUCH!

Wonderful alliteration.

Thank you for sharing these marvelous pictures. Commonplace? You live in an exotic Garden of Eden compared to our everyday variety of flowers, trees, and birds, the most spectacular of which are beautiful little Hummingbirds, bright red Cardinals, yellow Finches, and maybe a Bluebird or two sprinkled in here in Kentucky. (Maybe ours aren't so commonplace and dull after all.)

As far as you thanking us, you have brightened our lives on a daily basis with your humor, your kindness, your caring, and your tender (sometimes tough as nails) advice, and for allowing us to be part of your personal life. You were the first "outside" blogger visitor to my little site and from there a kalaidoscope of blogger friends has blossomed into my life. I am a better person because of you. So, thank you, Miss Jellyhead, for being a constant reader and commenter.

You have made us all less whiny and we have become better, more interesting writers. (Insert smiley face here.)

Oh, my God...those Rainbow lorikeets are BEAUTIFUL !!!

We also don't have any palm trees here in Kentucky...We have to travel thousands of miles to see any. The flowers are very interesting and pretty looking too. They remind me of date palm flowers.

At first glance, I thought the palm flowers were some kind of bird nests, until I read your post, and looked closer.

And you say these pretty little birds are just common place? WOW

I am so glad you shared this common place event with us...You surely live in a paradise.

I talk about my blogging friends to my husband and family. You can often hear me say...Honey, you know what happened to Jelly today, bla, bla, bla?
I don't have to explain anymore who you all are...or where your from. They just listen to your tales as I tell them.

I think that you probably know more about me than my extended family or friends do? I am normally a very shy person...who just sits and listens, but blogging has given me the freedom to express myself in any way I want, whether it be serious or silly. I don't feel judged.

I have actually gained more confidence and self esteem since I've been blogging. And this is because of all of my blogging friends, like yourself, who stop by my blog and leave such nice comments. I thank you for that...it means so much to me and is the highlight of my day.

So lovely to see the Lorikeets again. My mum used to feed great groups of them... and others....the kookas and magpies, and I think the lorikeets too, would eat out of her hand. My daughter was enchanted with them when I took her to visit her Aussie grandmother in 1994. She was 13 at the time. The Aussie birds are spectacular...so colorful. We have the same birds here in the Northeast that Motherkitty mentioned. They're lovely too, but not quite so spectacular. I've never seen those flowers before. Truly remarkable!
I agree that blogging is such a friendly and interesting little 'community'. We really develop a true affection for one another. It's wonderful! Have loved reading all your posts. I meant to leave a comment a couple of days ago when I was here, but got distracted when I clicked your link to John Cowart's blog :) It was fun too!

Oh, I forgot what I stopped in to say!! I tagged you on my blog. Lucky you :)

My husband just looked at the lorikeets and says the pictures are amazing and wanted to know how your husband got such fantastic camera shots of them?...and what kind of camera do you use?

Of course, I was told by Motherkitty that it's not the camera, but the person taking the pictures...that makes a good picture.

Great pictures! We have lots of lorikeets here too - they're like kamikaze pilots, you have to duck or they'll fly into you!

I'm happy I started blogging too, it's such a fabulous community full of the loveliest people :)

Well there you go - so many of you were impressed by birds I forget to be impressed by! Thank you so much for your comments, and for your blog-friendship

Sandy, those photos were taken by little old me, for a change! It's just a decent digital camera (a Olympus C740, with 10X optical zoom). I think that particular make has been superseded by something else, though.

They are beautiful! Your photos make me want to hop on the next plan to Australia!

Thanks for the camera info Jelly...Your pictures are so good...
Have you thought about a part-time job with National Geographic?
You & Motherkitty just have that knack for taking beautiful pictures.
